Workshop on Rural-Urban Migration in Indonesia, Jakarta, 10 February 2009 PDF Print E-mail
In collaboration with the Indonesian National Development Planning (Bappenas), RUMiCI successfully conducted a workshop in the Bappenas Building, Jakarta, Indonesia on 10 February 2009.  The event was co-organised by Ms. Rahma Iryanti, Director for Labor and Employment Development of Bappenas, and moderated by Dr. Bambang Widianto, Deputy Minister of Bappenas. Dr. Prasetijono Widjojo, Deputy Minister of Bappenas also actively participated in all sessions of the workshop.     
      The objective of this workshop was to inform policymakers in Jakarta on the latest research outcomes from the newly conducted RUMiCI survey (2008).  In particular, the workshop was to provide timely input and present preliminary findings to Bappenas (Natioal Development Planning Agency) during its preparation for the Indonesian medium term plan, specifically in the field of urbanization and employment in urban area.

The RUMiCI Conference 2008, Canberra PDF Print E-mail
The RUMiCI Conference was conducted at the Australian National University (ANU) on 10 to 12 December 2008. About 20 international and 30 local academics and professionals were present at the conference, including researchers from government agencies, e.g. AusAID and FaHCSIA.  A great number of research students also part of the participants of the conference. The conference was  a two-and-half-day program covering a wide range of topics.  The first day summarised the first wave survey and disseminated preliminary findings.  The ANU-based research team as well as researchers from both China and Indonesia presented ten papers based on the first wave of the RUMiCI data.

RUMiCI Update, March 2009 PDF Print E-mail

The RUMiCI project initiated a second-wave of the surveys in China and Indonesia at the end of February 2009. Currently, the project team is working in the field coordinating and monitoring the survey activities and participating in training new survey team members.

RUMiCI researchers Dr Xiaodong Gong, Dr Sherry Kong and Prof Xin Meng with research collaborator Prof Li Shi (Beijing Normal University) have published a book chapter - Rural-Urban Migrants, a driving force for growth - drawing on RUMiCI research. The chapter is available for download.
